free music
The nice part about listening to music on the radio is that it generally consists of a somewhat
diverse play list, ranging from your old favorites, to new hits. The best part about listening to
the radio is that it is 100% free; it costs you nothing. In recent years, the boom in Internet
downloading has allowed people this same, free ability, to collect their favorite songs and the
most current hits. Whereas some of the resources through which the masses are choosing to get their
free music are legitimate, the majority of the easily found free music on the Internet consists of
illegal sharing that blurs the copyright infringement divide. Such big name bands as Metallica and
Blink 182 have fought for the right to ban such illegal file sharing networks. The most famous of
which, Napster, suffered the consequences, and was forced out of commission until its recent revamp
network, through which people can pay a fee to become part of this file sharing community.
Those in defense of free music downloading say that it is no more a copyright
infringement than recording songs off the radio, the main
difference being the greater degree of flexibility in
choosing your music. The MP3
boom has demonstrated that downloading music is not
a temporary fad, but the beginning of a media revolution,
through which people will eventually have all their favorite
media at the click of a button. Car stereos that are MP3
capable, rapid increases in CD burning technologies, popular
MP3 players such as the Rio brands and the ever-popular
I-Pod series… The usages of free music continue to spread
and grow.
